about me
i am a canadian girl, in her twenties, figuring out the balance of living a (responsible) adult life (paying bills, keeping the house neat and clean, eating my vegetables) with having kid-fun (putting peanut butter chocolate chip m&m cookies in my lunch, sometimes wearing pigtails, always having a twinkle in my eye). it’s a fine line. many days, i tread on the side of old – going to bed early, staying in on friday nights to bake pies – but for the most part i enjoy being young at heart. i’m all for growing up, but i am very anti getting rid of all the fun! as the only under-thirty in my office, i try and help keep my coworkers young too!
i love being active. i run, i bike, i swim and i (try to) do yoga. i love fall hikes in the woods and snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter. being outdoors makes me happy and alive. first and foremost, i am a runner. i have raced in one marathon, six half marathons and various 10 and 5k events. though i am far from super fast (slowish, even), i love the challenge of racing and the thrill i get from achieving a goal or finishing a hard race. last year i participated in my first ever bike race this year, which was a ton of fun, but also really hard.
if i can do sometimes myself instead of buying it in a package, you bet i will. this helps me eat more locally and cuts down heavily on the amount of garbage i produce. i make all my own jams and preserves and granola like cereals. i also make all my own ice cream. i try not to buy many premade snack foods or bars (though larabars are a favourite around here for travelling and when i am super busy) and instead bake preservative-free, healthier things at home. i shop at my local farmers market as much as possible, while it runs from june to october. eating produce with integrity is very important to me, even if it’s more expensive than what the grocery store sells. i am very lucky because my boyfriend’s family have a lovely farm a few hours east of here, and his parents always send us home with a bounty of vegetables (and some fruits). we get free range grass fed beef from his uncle, who raises cows, when it’s available. for my other fruit and vegetable needs, i usually hit up the u-pick a few times a year to fill my freezer and grow what i can in my small backyard.
